Terms I Use

• Action - An anime that contains... action. Like comedy, it is rarely by itself.
• Comedy - An anime that (hopefully) makes me laugh. Rarely by itself in the genre field.
• Drama - Usually a plot-driven anime will be of this genre, but if it isn't centered around any other genre it can also be of this genre.
• Ecchi - This anime either has so much fan service it crosses an invisible line or it has a scene depicting sex.
• Fan Service - Features an overload of panty shots. The only thing it can do is lower the rating of a show.
• Futuristic - Usually an anime that is set in space or has some sort of other science fiction elements will be classified as this.
• Harem - Features one or two men completely surrounded by many, many women. The Fan Service genre is included in this.
• Mecha - Revolves almost entirely around mecha battles.
• Robots - Features a lot of cyborgs/androids, or has one for a main character.
• Romance - Self-explanatory. Contains elements of... romance!
• School - Most of a series with this label will take place inside or around a school.
• Short - An anime that is, at most, 10 minutes long. These titles are normally less about the plot and more about cramming as much chaos as possible into the small amount of time alotted. There are many exceptions, though.
• Slice of Life - A term generally used when referring to an anime that shows what a particular person/robot does in their daily life.
• Sports - An anime that centers entirely around a sporting event. It can also refer to any anime entirely about a person participating in a tournament.
• Stupid - An anime that excels at one thing and one thing only: being as mind-numbingly stupid as possible. Only an anime that actually causes the reviewer's brain cells to commit suicide will receive this genre.
• Surreal - The rarest of rare genres, it means that the particular anime is well... surreal. Can also be combined with "Thinker".
• Thinker - Something that makes me think excessively and/or is inspiring. This can be either good or bad. For instance, a really bad anime might not explain anything and I'll need to think a lot to understand it.
