Bottle Fairy is a comedy that can stand alongside and come up to around the ankles of other comedy greats like
Azumanga Daioh and
Excel Saga. Hyper, humorous, and packed with massive amounts of japanese culture references and jokes,
Bottle Fairy is a series that you can watch again and again and STILL laugh. Everything is just so imaginative and humorous.
From the energetic opening theme to the slow and soft ending theme, it was a very nice experience. Though the episodes, lasting only around twelve minutes apiece, seemed to be over almost as quickly as they started, I really enjoyed nearly every minute of this series. The art style is reminiscent of
Azumanga Daioh, though perhaps that may just be me comparing the character named Hororo to Azumanga Daioh's Osaka. The character designer behind
Bottle Fairy, Tokumi Yuiko, has no relation at all to
Azumanga Daioh. Must be a coincidence... The artwork is equally as unique as the premise behind it, however.

The basis behind
Bottle Fairy is that the little fairies, Kururu, Sarara, Hororo, and Chiriri, learn something about how humans live each month. There is an episode for every month (the first episode is April) as well as a 13th episode which concludes the series. For instance, in the episode for May they are taught about the Golden Week, and in the January episode they are taught how to celebrate the New Years holiday. Each episode has a lot of cultural references, so you may need a little background to understand everything.
Though the characters in
Bottle Fairy were not exactly the most original ones out there, it was still enjoyable being able to see what happened to them on their adventures. We have Kururu, the energetic "genki" fairy, Chiriri the feminine fairy, Sarara the rebellious/tomboyish fairy, and Hororo, the absentminded fairy. It may have been a clichéd mixture of characters, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
The ending to
Bottle Fairy was pretty good. Though there really wasn't a whole lot of plot to speak of in the story, it was a nice and humorous resolution that neither made us think a lot nor made us yawn. It was the same interesting blend of comedy and drama that was present throughout the series, though it would have been nice if it had been a little more seriously thought out. If you enjoyed
Azumanga Daioh, you'd definitely like
Bottle Fairy. If you like your anime funny or your characters cute, you'll like
Bottle Fairy.
