The first movie based on Cardcaptor Sakura takes place in between the first and second seasons (approximately episode 35), but you really don't need prior viewing of CCS to understand what's going on here. If you have seen CCS, then this is an experience that you definitely should not miss.

The movie, like most movies, features gorgeous animation that overshadows the original series. The scenery of Hong Kong changed my viewing experience drastically, it was totally new and refreshing. People who are familiar with her voice will also recognize that Hayashibara Megumi plays a role in this movie. Hayashibara was the woman who did girl-Ranma's voice as well as Lina in the Slayers, Tira in Sorceror Hunters, etc. In the movie, she plays the role of the bad guy, a departure from her usual roles but still just as high quality as ever.

The story is superb as well. However, what moves the story along is what bothers me. We are introduced to a plethora of new characters here, namely the Shaoran family (Li's family), but no development is provided for any of them. They are merely there for comedy relief and, in the case of the mother, move the story along a little.

If you're a fan of Cardcaptor Sakura (Cardcaptors on the WB), then you should definitely watch this movie. If you've never seen CCS before, or even heard of it, what the heck are you waiting for? Watch it! :D

Likes - Interesting new locations; great story; Hayashibara Megumi!
Dislikes - Little depth given to the Shaoran family
