DNAČ
Genre(s):  Comedy, Drama
Released:  1994
Episodes:  15 TV

In the future, society has an immense overpopulation problem. The cause of said problem is an individual from the past called the Mega-Playboy. Karin is an agent sent to the past to find the first Mega-Playboy and stop him with a special bullet. Karin, who dreams of having her very own "Sweet, Sweet Home" (a rarity in the overcrowded future) goes back in the past to find a boy—a young man named Junta. Junta has a problem: he is allergic to girls and throws up whenever he gets close to them (except when near his childhood friend, Ami). Perplexed, Karin shoots him anyway and finds out all too late that she shot him with the wrong bullet! The drug inside of the bullet messes with Junta's DNA and turns Junta into a Mega-Playboy. Now Karin has to figure out how to get out of the mess that she created, or else she won't get her sweet, sweet home.

DNAČ was made by the same individual who created Video Girl Ai. If you've seen VGA, you already know how great the romances are that he makes. Nevertheless, I have very few complaints about DNAČ: first of all would have to be the super-saiyajin like subplot in the early episodes. Junta is like Gohan. He has spikey hair and he transforms when he is angry or emotionally distressed. The way he transforms is very saiya-jin like as well. He's swallowed by a cloud of yellow energy.

However, if you look past this subplot, you find an anime with a very solid main plot with very solid characters, each with their own backgrounds. No two of them are alike, each have their own fears, problems, and in the case of Komoki an absolutely hilarious intestinal problem. One of the drawbacks of Goto Takayuki's works however is subpar animation quality. The animation here is much like that of Video Girl Ai's. It's rough around the edges, but it definitely gets the job done.

One thing I haven't mentioned too much is the amount of comedy in DNAČ. Much of the comedy consists of perverted things, fart jokes, and I mean... come on, the guy throws up whenever he's near women. However, it's the TIMING of said jokes that makes them funny. If they were just randomly placed in there (like in Hanaukyo Maid Tai), then it wouldn't be funny at all.

Likes - Great story and characters; above average music

Dislikes - Saiya-jin subplot; below average animation; ending didn't satisfy
