Combine two parts
Kikaider with one
Mouse and you end up with
Dokkoida: a fan service comedy reminiscent of older sentai shows like Kikaider and Zyuranger (Power Rangers is a sentai series for you Americans out there). Never taking itself very seriously, it constantly mocks old sentai shows as well as newer anime such as
Onegai Teacher and
Sister Princess. Similar to many other comedies,
Dokkoida is really one of those love-it-or-hate-it types of anime that really depend on how much japanese culture you understand in order to enjoy it.
If I had to sum up the characters in
Dokkoida, I would say "bizarre". From the super-cute Tanpopo to the impossibly busty dominatrix Sayuri, each character is totally off the wall and really funny. That is, except for the two main characters Suzuo and Asaka. Of all of the many characters in the show, they're the only two that don't really fit in with the others. They're just too normal. Suzuo is just an average college student trying to find a part-time job and be a good brother, and Asaka is a somewhat annoying brash, tomboyish girl. It's really quite a stark contrast to the rest of the cast, but it usually really helps build up the humor.

The numerous jokes in
Dokkoida never seemed to miss their mark for me. I found almost every situation to be funny, even a couple jokes that had to do with the fan service (which I usually find dull). This continues up until about episode 10 or 11 when the ending kicks in. The ending felt really awkward after watching all of the episodes before it. Gone is the comedy and nearly everything that made the characters interesting. In its place, we're given a corny drama that had no place at all in the series, introducing a conflict and bad guy out of nowhere. The way the series ended just didn't feel right without any comedy at all, which was really disappointing.
The plot in
Dokkoida is pretty much nonexistant, save the last couple of episodes. However, if you're a fan of comedy anime, deep stories are not what you should expect from such a show. There are a couple of episodes that were somewhat less funny than the rest, mostly because I don't really like fan service comedy. Sayuri's "bounciness" became old pretty quickly, and the episode(s) centered around her got old even faster.
All in all, I'd say that
Dokkoida is something that any fan of sentai would appreciate, and it's definitely worth watching just to see all of the spoofs in it. The
Sister Princess and
Onegai Teacher spoofs alone had me rolling on the floor, laughing.
Likes - Nearly always funny; bizarre characters
Dislikes - Awkward ending; too much fan service
