Yikes! It's not often one gets to see super-deformity used this much in a single anime, but that didn't bother me as I watched
Dragon Half. If I were to describe the amount of super-deformity present in
Dragon Half, I would have to say "Overkill". Being a measly two episodes in length,
Dragon Half is not something that will test your mental abilities. In many respects, it is similar to the
Slayers. It's set in a time of swords, sorcery, and dragons. However, the difference between the two is that while Slayers tries to merge both comedy AND story,
Dragon Half is intent on just making us laugh as much as possible.

As I've already said, there are more situations in
Dragon Half with super-deformed characters than I've probably ever seen. Not only that, but in many scenes the characters switch in between normal design and super-deformed design once, twice, thrice, sometimes even four times! Well... maybe not FOUR times, but definitely three times! Thankfully, the series ends before the constant switching between designs gets stale, but the fact that it ends so abruptly leaves behind a few problems.
One such problem is that what little semblance of a story present in
Dragon Half never actually finishes up. In the first episode, Mink begins her search for a potion that will turn her into a human. We never find out whether or not she ever comes across the potion, but it was still a very enjoyable finish to the series. I don't think I'm ever going to look at a laxative the same way!
The music was also pretty annoying in the two episodes. The ending theme made my ears bleed, I swear! I can't really say much about the art and animation, except that different animation crews did each episode. If you pay attention, you can definitely notice the difference in the art styles. The character designs were a bit more jagged in the first episode but really smoothed out in the second. I really liked each of the characters as well. Just about everything about them was funny, and the antics of Rosario had me rolling on my floor, laughing.
Likes - Hilarious; bursting with originality
Dislikes - Lack of an ending; lame music
