Tenchi Muyo!,
El Hazard is a an anime that accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do: entertain you for a couple of hours. The pacing in
EH is very well done. Each episode moves quickly but not too fast to leave you behind. The story develops quite nicely, but eventually turns into a very predictable and cliché experience. Revenge is just too common a plot.
The music in
EH won't be winning any awards any time soon. I often found myself skipping through the intro and ending sequences because I just couldn't stand them. The music that goes along with the show is also pretty subpar, with a couple of badly places music pieces. The animation, however, is bright and vibrant. It truly is a magnificent world. Everything, from the characters to the world itself, is just so detailed.
The characters, unfortunately, leave quite a lot to be desired. Most of them are fully developed in the first two episodes. Also, the character Jinnai could have been a central character in the series but ends up just being the comedy relief. Some "major" characters are given no information at all. For instance, the Bugrom queen wants to take over the world for some reason but we never know what her motivations are, and she never undergoes any sort of change. Also, the most interesting part of the series, the romance aspect, is tucked away for the last episode only.
Likes - Detailed world; very funny at times; Ifurita; great character designs
Dislikes - Plot doesn't develop until last episode; little character information
