Great Teacher Onizuka
Genre(s):  Action, Comedy, Drama
Released:  2000
Episodes:  43 TV

A former biker gang leader and high school karate champion with a heart the size of a tank, seeks to become one of the greatest teachers that ever lived. Onizuka, age 22, still a virgin, wants to bring the "fun" back into school, and also can't help but think of all the luscious high school girls he can... "teach". But the road to becoming a teacher quickly starts off bad as he catches a guy harassing a lady on a packed bus, which Onizuka later punches the guy in the face for, and ironically enough, the guy he punched turns out to be the vice-principal of the school he applies to! This is just the start for Onizuka's wild and heart felt career, but little does he know that a lot more then pretty high school girls with short mini-skirts are awaiting him...

Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) is a spin-off anime series based on the manga, and the Live Action series GTO. GTO is one of the best anime series I have ever seen. I'm not sure how i stumbled upon this masterpiece of drama and comedy, but I'm sure happy I did. Basically the whole series is about Onizuka, and how he improves the lives of other people, while adding as much comedy to it as possible. Their are also some serious points to this anime, and a warmth to it that will make you always feel "good".

Don't get me wrong though, the series is funny as hell, has a mature theme, and has some ecchi to boot. Onizuka, on his way to becoming the greatest teacher ever, some how finds his way into teaching for a private and well respected high school. But with his past knowledge in the hands of school administrators now, it seems that no matter where he turns trouble follows.

First he is assigned homeroom teacher to the worse class in the whole school, and this class has a reputation of "putting out" all their previous homeroom teachers by making them quit for some reason or another. But little does the class know that Onizuka is not a "regular" teacher, and he is bound to kick anyone's ass if there is ass needed to be kicked. So it is Onizuka's job to "fix" this class up for the school, but the only problem is that Onizuka doesn't know anything about the class until "weird" things start to happen.

That is the beginning of a wonderful series that no one should miss out on, although I would recommend it to a more mature audience. The animation is superb; the facial expressions are really well drawn out and funny (specially on Onizuka himself). Although the character design is not that of your typical anime, you will surely fall in love with it as I have. The music is on a level of its own, its not quite catchy and frequent, but it definitely fits with the series. As for story, well thats the best thing about this anime, because it's story is more then just superb, but it is one of those things you can rarely come by these days.

The only bad side to this anime is that the series could of been much more longer, and seemed to just end to quick, leaving the viewer to think "I want more". Their is a lot more to say about this fantastic series, but instead of revealing more information about it to you, it would be much more better for you guys/gals to go and see the series for your selves, and experience the GTO fever.

Only saw the first few episodes of the anime. But while it really is a briljant serie, the manga is even much, MUCH better!
Tokyopop is working on the translation. There at 20 (out of 25).
The anime stops at volume 14 + the ending. as far a i can tell

nice review btw ^_^

I finally bought the final disk of GTO last night, and finished the show this morning.

It is one of my favorites series now, its a shame that the ending was so forced, but it did seem to hint towards a sequel. (Could have been the manga or the live action i suppose)

I've always heard very good things about this show, and I originally bought it on a whim, (I had money to spare, and i saw it at BestBuy for $70 for the first season... And for whatever reason, i picked up and and bought it)
Then, finally, 3 weeks and another $100 later, i own all 43 episodes of this awesome series.

There are so many things done so right in this anime that I really wish that it could be longer. It feels strange to me wishing a 43 episode series to be longer, but there are still some students that haven't had a major crisis yet in his class =p.

I really can't say much that hasn't been said other than.. "If you haven't seen GTO yet, GO SEE IT"

My favorite anime so far. Only problem was the anime didn't finish what the manga did. The anime ends at Volume 16 out of 25 the mangas made. The anime doesn't explain Kanzaki's eyes, Fujiyoshi's love for Miyabi, and that perverted guy's actions after he came out of jail for stalking Ms. Fuyutsuki. That's the stuff I found out after going from volume 16 to 19. Plus there's a prequel manga to the show where Onizuka is in highschool and they show where he gets his bike and stuff. I didn't read that stuff cause I just found out about it today. Great show though and no other anime comes close in my opinion.
