As far as sequels go, Happy Lesson Advance neither disappointed me nor did it exceed my expectations. It's shows like this that I really dislike writing reviews for. They always come down to how many synonyms for "average" I can think up. "No more!", I say. Today, I will break that trend and offer a fresh, insightful review that none of you would ever expect! I will not use any synonyms for "average" today; I won't even use the word "moderate"!

Happy Lesson Advance apparently didn't learn the lesson taught by the first series: a harem anime with no romantic tension results in an overall boring experience. What is the point of surrounding a male character with a horde of females if there's no *tension* between them. Whoever thought up the idea that a bunch of women (his teachers, no less) want to team up and secretly become a guy's mothers should be shot. I don't know, maybe I'm just bitter that Happy Lesson Advance, like the first series, didn't have an ounce of closure.

A series like this just can't have closure, you see. What's Chitose going to do, pick one of the mothers and tell the rest to hit the road? In the first series, there was always a bit of romantic tension between Chitose and Nanakorobi (I think that's her name), but they totally wasted that opportunity with its ending. In this series, we have a LOT of stuff going on between Chitose and Kuron, but so much time is wasted before getting to the point.

All of the characters in Happy Lesson Advance are pretty much exactly the same as they were in the beginning of the first series, which means that you don't really need to SEE the first series to understand what's going on in Advance. Thankfully, we finally get some character development in this series, but it's all pretty much used on Mutsuki, Chitose, and Kuron. Most of the characters do get their own episodes, but their personalities and actions don't change at all, and everything just returns to normal by the end of the episode.

Of all of the episodes, the one about Kisaragii was definitely my favorite, even though it didn't make much sense at all when you compare it to her background when it was presented to us in Happy Lesson. The animation and music quality is pretty much exactly the same as in Happy Lesson, which means that the character designs are also just as lousy. Thankfully, Happy Lesson Advance doesn't have as much fan service as the original did, which made quite a bit more sense to me. I really didn't think an illegitimate mother would bathe their high school son or rub him around in their breasts, do you?

As I said before, the series has no closure, but it ends in a way that could possibly lead to yet another Happy Lesson series. I, for one, hope that they don't advance this happy lesson any further.

Likes - Same great Happy Lesson characters
Dislikes - STILL no closure!; little character development
