Ahh... I've finally gotten a chance to see the second
Inuyasha movie, a side-story to one of my favorite shows around. Unfortunately, all of my hopes were not quite met by this movie. The first movie was a fantastic merge of romance and action sequences, revolving mostly around romance, while the second movie mostly develops a plot and leaves everything else aside until the end. Another place where this movie falters is that you need to have watched up to around episode 80 of
Inuyasha to understand what's going on, whereas in the first movie you just needed to watch maybe the first 10.
Oh, and there was no Sesshoumaru! I know most of you don't watch the series, but he's easily the coolest character in the whole show. He gets about .25 seconds of time where it just shows a couple frames of his face. Big disappointment for Sesshoumaru fans!
The animation in the movie is absolutely fantastic, as would be expected from an
Inuyasha movie. Like the first movie, it uses the drawing style of the manga instead of the tv show. The music is usual Inuyasha fare, which is to say that it is excellent. All Inuyasha music seems to be top-notch.
The plot is nothing amazing, but it definitely works. The movies definitely tries to develop it as much as it can, but if you watch the TV series then you know how it's going to end, and that is exactly the problem with this movie. Because of the fact that it uses the villain from the tv series, you know that the villain CAN'T die in the movie because then
Inuyasha wouldn't still be running at 160 episodes (and this movie takes place around episode 80).
Likes - Animation and music; solid plot; character development in the last 20 minutes
Dislikes - Predictable; character development *only* in the last 20 minutes
