Miyazawa has always been the center of attention at her school. Ever since she was a child, she has always disguised her true self by acting like a model student. Only her family knows her true behavior: Miyazawa is a workaholic that feeds off of the love and attention that her fellow students give to her. Her plan is working perfectly until a boy by the name of Arima comes to her school and is a perfect mirror image of herself. She considers him to be her rival until she discovers that he might not be as bad as she first thought. That's when Arima sees her at home...

Gainax, you've done it again! *clap* You've delivered a fantastic story after rebounding off of the ending of the Evangelion TV series. Kare Kano, or His and Her Circumstances (short for Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou), is a perfect blend of romance and comedy to delight almost any fan of anime.

Unfortuantely, not all is well in the land of Kare Kano. Summary episodes run rampant. There is at least one for every five story episodes. It's becomes irritating by the end of the series, especially when summarizing the story thus far may take up TWO episodes. Nevertheless, Kare Kano is still very enjoyable til the very end.

And boy, what an ending that was, eh? I've got to hand it to Gainax, they really know how to do their endings. Please note that those last few sentences were both SARCASM. For some reason or another, Gainax tried to stuff an ending into the last two episodes following a summary episode. In nearly all of the story-heavy Gainax animes I've seen, there has not been ONE satisfying ending. Evangelion, Wings of Honneamise, FLCL, and this.

Don't let that little ounce of negativity deter you, though. Kare Kano is something you must add to your collection. Something like this only comes around once, you know...

Likes - Best. Romance. Ever.; freakin' hilarious!
Dislikes - Too many summary episodes; abrupt ending

i totally agree with you! i totally love the manga and anime! i wish tsuda would make more kare kano stories... -_-

They couldn't have gone farther with making the anime following the manga's plot without making a rather ecchi anime. .. I think another negative element you forgot to mention was the fact that in the anime the characters go SD far to much which ruins the romantic element. Plus the animators blured out some of the best scenes. If you like the anime of this show though, I highly recommend the manga. It takes you farther into the plot and throws in some interesting more detailed plot development making it very enjoyable.

Great anime all around. I definitely want to check out the manga, but I dunno if I ever can, so I might have to be stuck with this ending :(. It's still worth watching, though.

While the show was great and really funny, I agree with Aqua that people who have watched this show or that are interested in it should definitely look into buying the manga. If you watched the series and want to pick up where it left off then I suggest starting with Vol. 8 in the manga. The guy at the anime store recommended it to me and it hasn't let me down yet. Definitely one of the better mangas out there. I like how she has a good amount of characters to work with and build on and I haven't found any of the books to be boring. Even my younger brother loves this series. He's read up through vol. 16 in the manga which now we have to wait for vol. 17 to be released. :(

So Kudos to Tsuda and I hope she keeps up the good work! :)
