Based on the bishoujo game of the same name,
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien has the romance, drama, and girl in the hospital that you can usually expect from a high budget game-to-anime conversion. The way the story developed surprised me at every scene, though. When some things happened, I was shocked. That's right, shocked. Following the "event" that shook everybody's life in the story, only a couple of things had proceeded as I expected them to which was somewhat of a disappointment to me.
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien is about as close as one can get to a soap opera in an anime. Although the story moved quicker and the characters weren't quite as annoying as an actual melodromatic soap opera series, I just couldn't shake the feeling that that was what I was actually watching. A disturbing thought, I know, but all of the elements are there.

The characters in
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien are pretty much stock characters ripped right out of every other anime ever made. You have Takayuki the apathetic lead male, Haruka the timid lead female, Mitsuki the tomboyish friend of the lead male character that has a crush on him, and Shinji, the sidekick of the lead male character. All of them together form a cast that I've seen numerous times before, but it's the way they interact that makes them shine.
Not many anime series can make you feel sympathy or hate for their characters, but you'll definitely have those feelings when you watch
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. I don't mean that like how I hated the characters in Fatal Fury or something like that, but rather that I really felt an emotional connection to them. As the story progressed, I became more and more attached to each and every one of them and I could really feel what they were feeling. They just seemed like realistic characters to me.
The artwork and animation are pretty mediocre in
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, but the music is exceptional. I really enjoyed the three or four vocal pieces done throughout the series, and the background music was nice as well. I really didn't feel like there was enough variety, though. There wasn't much of a difference between some of the pieces and they pretty much played the same music from episode to episode. On the other hand, at least they didn't just take the opening and ending themes, rip out the vocals, and make that a background track.
In the middle of the series, quite a few of the episodes began to drag on and some of the characters, particularly MayuMayu and Daikuji, eventually just became downright annoying. Whenever I saw the two pop up, I just sighed a big sigh because I knew one thing was for certain: more filler was coming. I was also a little mad that almost no background information was given to either of them, especially since Daikuji is one of the more important minor characters in the story.
Likes - interesting story; character interactions
Dislikes - overacting; some episodes and jokes drag on and on
