Neko no Ongaeshi
Genre(s):  Drama
Released:  2002
Episodes:  Movie

Haru is just a plain, ordinary 17-year-old high school girl. Her grades and athletic ability are mediocre, and she doesn't exactly have any looks to boot. However, when she selflessly saves the life of a cat crossing the street, her world is turned upside down. The cat, it turns out, is the prince of the Kingdom of Cats and Haru finds herself being whisked away to an adventure she never expected.

Neko no Ongaeshi, or The Cat Returns, is the latest work from Studio Ghibli. I know that many, many people would disagree with me on this but I really consider it to be a side-story to a previous Ghibli work, Whispers of the Heart. I say this because it features two characters from the movie: Muta and Baron.

I found Neko to be a great film with few faults. It is your usual Ghibli masterpiece (although it isn't a Miyazaki). It has rich, detailed environments found in almost every other film they've created, smooth animation, and an experience that captures your imagination. Of course, you all know what to expect out of a Ghibli film, I'm sure all of you reading this have seen at least one in the past.

If you don't care for cats, this probably isn't the anime for you. It centers entirely around talking cats, cats walking around, etc. However, that is another staple of Ghibli films like Pom Poko, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away... the list goes on and on.

Likes - Imaginative; detailed environments; great characters
Dislikes - Wafer-thin plot; short

Actually this is one of the weaker Ghibli productions in my opinion, but still worth watching. Ghibli never fails. ;)
