Ah... it's been a while since I've reviewed a steaming turd like this. Not long enough, I'm afraid. Just where do I begin reviewing this? I suppose I'll start with the bad stuff and then move on to the good stuff.
The animation and music of
ONE, the two major pros of almost any OVA series, are absolutely terrible in every scene in
ONE. The ending theme is pretty good, but it's nothing I'd actually spend precious disk space downloading. Character movements are choppy and unrealistic, and character designs are run-of-the-mill. I would have expected an OVA series from 2001 to have better technicals than this... but oh well. That's just the tip of the iceberg.
Each of the four episodes contained in
ONE are completely separate from each other with the exception of the fourth episode. The fourth episode tries to tie all of it together but fails because it only features Kouhei and Mizuka. Each episode has separate characters with only
ONE constant: Orihara Kouhei. Kouhei must have been quite a player when he was a 7-year-old because he somehow made the same promise to 7 girls on the exact same day. The day before SOMETHING happened to Kouhei.
That leads me to my last complaint: nothing is EVER solved by the ending. We're somehow left with three completely useless episodes and a fourth episode that doesn't even TRY to answer any of the questions. The entire story is also somehow resolved in the last 10 seconds of the show. To list just half of the questions on this series would take at least a few pages. I was left so damn confused by the end of the series I just had to watch something more simple. Unfortunately, what followed my viewing of this was Gravion...
Alright, I said I'd talk about the good stuff in the show. The plot, despite being like swiss cheese, is... ambitious and had some potential. I'm really just scraping the bottom of the barrel here, though.
Likes - I think it's trying to have a nice plot... maybe
Dislikes - Too many questions; terrible characters and animation
