It is a world of fantasy, where magic reigns and monsters lurk, then there’s Lina Inverse! A cute, fireball-throwing sorceress who steals from the wicked and gives to herself! Along with Gourry, a handsome but not-so-smart swordsman, Lina faces the uncanny as she seeks fame and fortune. Meanwhile Zelgadis, a powerful soldier pursues Lina in an attempt to recover a magical item that can bring about the end of the world.

Slayers is certainly an interesting anime with a lot of hype surrounding it. As a comedy, it succeeds with flying colors because it has a good, solid plot (for a comedy), great characters, and in some cases is very funny. Add to this the usual brilliant voicework by Megumi Hayashibara as Lina Inverse (also girl Ranma from Ranma 1/2, Rei from Evangelion, and many many others) and you have the groundworks for a very comical fantasy anime. The plot, while straightforward and to some extent predictable, doesn't falter in the end but, alas, it doesn't have much depth to it.

The Slayers also has a record amount of filler episode (episodes that do not advance the plot). Nearly EVERY episode in The Slayers is filler. Normally this would just become annoying, but with the Slayers, you look forward to the next filler episode because it's going to guarantee a few laughs. The story episodes, though few and far between, offer a break in between the chuckles where you can ruminate on what's happened as the plot thickens. The story episodes have the action sequences, and the fillers have the comedy.

Speaking of the action sequences, they're done pretty well. Oh, and I *heart* Sylphiel!

Likes - Very funny; solid plot for a comedy; really interesting characters
Dislikes - Poor animation; Rezo; Plot is only good for a comedy
