On the Spooner Continent exists a number of men and women who are able to use the arcane arts, sorcerors. These sorcerors rule above the common man and occasionally oppress them. However, there is a group of people who are sent to take care of the evil sorcerors called the Sorceror Hunters. Each of them with a unique ability that will allow them to teach the sorcerors a lesson they'll never forget. Carrot, who transforms into a demon when hit with a magic spell. Gateau, who has super-human strength. Marron, Carrot's younger brother who can use magical items. Tira and Chocolate, who become... dominatrices. (My plural for Dominatrix).

Sorceror Hunters is an anime that I had high hopes for. It is another series which Megumi Hayashibara does voices for and I'm a big fan of her voicework. SH is a series with one long running gag. So long, it lasts all 26 episodes. Carrot hunts for women, Tira and Chocolate transform and beat him. Gateau and Marron sigh in the background. Lather, rinse repeat.

SH was pretty funny in times. I'm always interested in seeing just HOW Carrot goes for the women, and how freakishly scared of Tira and Chocolate he is. However, there is far more to the series than just the comedy. That's where the second genre, Drama, comes in. SH has a very, very ambitious plot. Something so horrible happened in the past that the leader of the religion everybody follows, Big Momma, had to seal away everybody's memories and now the past is catching up with them. Despite the lousy naming that is done in SH, that sounds like a pretty interesting foundation for a plot.

However, EVERY time the plot is advanced a little, Carrot just resumes his girl hunting with Tira and Chocolate in hot pursuit. And that, my friends, is where my main problem with this series lies: the character development, or lack thereof. For the entire series, every character is exactly the same. Carrot always looks for a woman despite getting beaten up every episode, Tira and Chocolate never get Carrot to love them because they always beat him, and Gateau and Marron just stand around and sigh. Even my favorite character, Dotta, was just another supposedly "major" character with no development at all.

Anyway, back to the plot advancement. I suppose you could say there is a plot episode every 10 filler episodes with the exception of the last 3 episodes which are all dedicated to the ending. The ending is another thing I had a problem with. It was filled with sooo much tension and it was so great... then they just ended it and that was that. No explanations, nothing. Background information is also poorly used.

It's hard for me to believe that I gave this a 2.75/5.0 for my rating. Despite all of its shortcomings, I still enjoyed watching it but I wouldn't really recommend going out of your way to get it.

Likes - Ambitious; Fantastic music; interesting characters; Dotta
Dislikes - Stupid names; Too ambitious for its own good; no character development; Unsatisfying ending
