Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, or Quiet Country Café, is what many would refer to as a "Slice of Life" anime. It has no plot, no villain, no conflict. Just characters going about their everyday lives and interacting with each other. That doesn't seem like a very interesting concept, but as we've seen in such shows as
Piano,
To Heart, it works quite well.
The greatest thing about
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is the atmosphere. Fueled by a fantastic, soothing musical score, YKK has one of the most relaxing atmospheres I've ever seen in an anime. The rolling countryside, the endless seas, it all works so well in this.
The characters are also unique and have their own funny quirks. The man known only as "Oji-san" is definitely my favorite, with his ever-present yet eerie smile. I would recommend this to anybody who is a fan of anime, whether you like lots of action or not. This should be good for just about anybody.
Likes - Great atmosphere; funny; great music; characters
Dislikes - It ends without an ending
